In Eric's prior role as Senior Vice President of Engineering at LightBox, Eric led an organization of 120 engineers responsible for the petabyte-scale platforms and services that ingest, store, compute and deliver all core data at LightBox, including the ingestion of more than 8 thousand data sources, the processing over 18 billion spatial, relational and raster data elements, and the serving of more than 60 billion API calls and 900 thousand reports annually.Eric architected LightBox's platform strategy and led its implementation for the first year and a half, including cloudification, a data lake ecosystem, a massively parallel compute platform, a high-velocity data ingestion pipeline, central API management and IAM services, and new capabilities including a federated knowledge graph, machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision. Eric also played a leading role in reorganizing LightBox's engineering teams into a single product development organization, in transitioning LightBox into a product-led company, and in developing and launching the LightBox's Valuation product.Beyond technical strategy and implementation, Eric also led vendor selection for a number of service providers (including LightBox's cloud provider, IdP, API gateway, and knowledge graph), technical due diligence for acquisitions, and the transition of acquired business' technologies, processes and people into the LightBox organization.

Eric managed platform, solution and release engineering and acted as the bridge between technical solutions and underlying business needs. With a hands-on leadership style and renaissance approach to technology, Eric was also involved day-to-day with CloudCompli's software and systems architecture, as well as several public-private partnerships and research initiatives around smart infrastructure.

MirmanX is a program for aspiring student entrepreneurs, providing an annually-selected cohort with the tools, funding and support necessary to develop, propose and implement business ideas with a team of student peers and industry mentors. A practicum running alongside the Mirman School's STEAM, entrepreneurship and design thinking programs, MirmanX is divided into (1) a business development component that culminates with pitch day to a group of investors and (2) a product implementation component where the selected and funded ideas are brought to fruition and launched.Eric designed the original concept for MirmanX and worked with school faculty and staff to define and implement the program. Eric then went on to serve as Chair of its independent Venture Board for the program's first three years, coordinating program elements and working with the school on the long-term vision and strategy of the program.

Eric managed technical strategy, implementation and adoption for a number of open source mobile and web platforms at UCLA and across the University of California.In 2010, Eric developed the initial version of the UC Mobile Web Framework (MWF) and led its growth into a multi-institution consortium that came to include over 15 higher ed universities. Until his departure in 2015, Eric kept this consortium in sync with leading edge mobile technologies, managing the development of strategies and tools around responsive web design, native app development, and more. Most notably, this collaboration produced the WebBlocks responsive toolkit and, in collaboration with the IMS Global Learning Consortium, the Community App Sharing Architecture (CASA).Beyond mobile-related initiatives, Eric had a technical leadership role in campus-wide platforms including UCLA's Common Collaboration & Learning Environment, UCLA on iTunes U, and UCLA's Online Polling Tool. He also supported the UCLA IT Security Office with penetration testing and security audits, including identifying vulnerabilities in UCLA's authentication system, wireless infrastructure, payment gateway, and more.Throughout his time at UCLA, Eric was integral in bridging UCLA with the broader tech community. He helped return open source as a core part of the University's portfolio, co-founded the Mobility & Modern Web Conference (MMWCON), and participated in working groups with the IMS Global Learning Consortium, Educause, W3C and WHATWG. In addition, Eric was a regular speaker at conferences including the UC Computing Services Conference, the Educause Annual Conference, the CENIC Annual Conference and the IMS Global Learning Impact Conference.
