Becoming the Events Coordinator for the Townsville Defence Force Recruiting office during the pandemic required autonomy, flexibility, resilience, and optimism to plan and manage targeted recruitment events across Central and North Queensland. With many events switching to virtual platforms, creativity was essential to developing the ways to connect with individuals while promoting the unique opportunities offered by the Australian Defence Force.

During my secondment as a Workforce Delivery Coordinator I was required to learn and adept quickly to a fast paced environment that was continuously impacted by COVID-19. Attention to detail, flexibility and problem solving skills were vital to supporting target achievement for Navy General Entry. I also demonstrated my communication and organisation skills managing requests from multiple stakeholders and competing deadlines.

In this position, I established the new Melbourne Tri-Service general entry desk while managing the Army Reserve desk during multiple staff changes. The roles required excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage with candidates and manage their applications through to enlistment. I exhibited strong organisation skills through my use of extensive excel tracking spreadsheets and reporting systems to balance the conflicting priorities of both desks. I also confirmed my ability and drive recruiting targets in challenging times.
