I am currently in my final year at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha (The University of Canterbury), pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on Political Science, International Relations, and Māori Indigenous Studies. My university education has been pivotal in shaping the professional direction I aim to take.During my summer internship at Te Tari Taiwhenua (The Department of Internal Affairs), I worked in the Local Government branch within the Natural and Built Environment team. I also collaborated with other teams on short-term projects, gaining valuable experience and a diverse skill set instrumental to my professional growth. I developed expertise in policy, briefings, research primers, regulations, and peer-reviewing, among other areas.I am deeply committed to Māori development and empowering Māori communities to attain tino rangatiratanga, or self-determination, in determining their own outcomes. Central to my approach is incorporating Tikanga Māori, particularly the value of manaakitanga, which emphasizes hospitality, generosity, and the importance of nurturing relationships.My career aspirations revolve around working within corporations or government roles that foster Māori development or policy analysis. I aspire to contribute to the public and private sectors, seeking roles prioritizing personal and professional development.
