Principle Investigator: Brian Paegel, Ph.D. Bio-analytical Chemistry Laboratory Working with Brian Paegel and Wesley Cochrane, we designed experiments to investigate an alternative theory for the origins of homochirality in biological organisms using microfluidics, confocal microscopy, and q-PCR. My contribution to this effort was the development of an assay capable of quantifying the permeation of L- & D- amino acids across theoretically plausible pre-biotic vesicles.

Polymer Chemistry and Materials Science LaboratoryWorking alongside Tuoqi Li, mentored by Frank Bates and Lorraine Francis, I analyzed the effect of block co-polymers as toughening agents in epoxy resin thermosets using tensile-strength, pressure-point analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and nanoindentation techniques.
