Currently we are operating in a matrix management system, and have a team of 8( project Co-ordinators; H& S officers, Site Supervisors, and Environmental Officers) directly reporting to me, whilst resources providing engineering, finance, procurement and other support services report to me cross-functionally. The GAS1 project covered the construction of Open Cycle Gas Turbine Power stations (adjacent to existing power stations completed in 2007 for the OCGT project), valued at approximately R6 billion.The main contract I managed covered the design and construction of power reticulation; main power station and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) cabling; earthing installation; security fencing, installation of telecommunications services; as well as the main lighting systems for the GAS1 project at Ankerlig (Atlantis, Western Cape) and Gourikwa (Mosselbay, Southern Cape) sites.I was also involved in the closure of the OCGT project which covered most of the same items indicated above. Some of the other smaller contracts I managed on site were as follows:• OCGT and GAS1 Fault recorders;• GAS1 Video Conferencing Facilities;• GAS1 Remedial Fencing Work;• GAS1 telecommunications systems with Eskom Telecommunications; and• GAS1 and OCGT site lighting.My employment as contract manager was primarily during the execution and closure phases of the project life cycle, and other parties were appointed as project leaders for the other phases.
