It is an alternative to the Electrostatic Precipitators that are situated at the back-end of +700 MW coal fired boilers. My primary function is the resolution of problems associated with the operation and maintenance, and optimisation of performance and maintenance, by the upgrading of plant via the application of technical knowledge and skills.I was accountable for the functioning and reliability of the Stack Emission Monitoring System and the reporting of the station’s monthly emissions into the atmosphere to the Dept. of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) in terms of the Power Stations Environmental Management Policy – Air Quality.My responsibilities with respect to the above include/d (but not limited to) the following:• Commissioning of the fabric filter plant• Commissioning of the stack emission monitoring system• Program and interface management between mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control and civil contractors, production and operations management and contract supervisors• Investigations into the effect of new operating regimes on plant health• Member of the Steering Committee involved in the fabric filter plant research program with Eskoms in-house research and development division (Eskom TSI)• Investigations into operational incidents• Designated Project Manager for the R1,80m stack emission monitoring contract for units 4 to 6.My involvement included the compilation of the enquiry, evaluation of the tenders, contract negotiations, and finally the management of this contract to completion w.r.t time, cost, and quality• Member of the Station’s Environmental Management Committee
