National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow - Cell And Molecular Biology
My work sought to understand the molecular mechanisms of cellular contractile arrays in epithelial tissue and how their misregulation contributes to disease. Using ASOs and 4D imaging, coupled with molecular and biochemical techniques, my team discovered a novel role for MgcRacGAP in spatiotemporal regulation of epithelial cell junctions during cytokinesis. This work was the first description of MgcRacGAP's concomitant activity at the contractile ring and cell junctions during cytokinesis in a live, vertebrate model. My research tenure at UM was fully funded via a National Science Foundation Research Fellowship and a UM Rackham Graduate School Pre-Doctoral Research Fellowship. Additional funding provided by the Journal of Cell Science Travelling Fellowship and UM Rackham Merit Fellowship.Outside of lab, I served as the Director of the Medical School's Health Science Pre-College Exposure Program for two years. I held multiple leadership and service roles for committees within my graduate department and beyond, and taught science outreach programs at UM and in the Ann Arbor Public Schools.
