I spent 9 years at Stripe, including 4 years as a staff engineer and 2 years as tech lead for data infrastructure. At various points I touched almost all of our systems infrastructure, although I focused on data infrastructure (including databases and streaming data pipelines).Some selected highlights I'm particularly proud of:- Co-designed Stripe's SWE (2013) and SRE (2015) interview loops, parts of which were still in use as of when I left- Co-led and -coordinated migration of Stripe's infrastructure from EC2 Classic to VPC and from us-west-1 to us-west-2 without requiring any service downtime (2015)- Built initial versions of much of our database observability stack, including using comments to identify sources of queries, patching (and upstreaming) support into MongoDB for randomly-sampled query logging (2013-2016)- Wrote initial version of "mproxy", a database access proxy supporting the MongoDB wire protocol written in Go. mproxy was used by the database team to intermediate access to all databases and as a single point of leverage for enforcing concerns around security, reliability, observability, etc. (2017)- Co-redesigned Stripe's internal incident classification system to account for problems observed with our original system. Identified gaps in the current system, captured the principles that classifications would need to satisfy, and collected feedback from stakeholders across the company (2020)- Part of Stripe's multi-region infrastructure team. Over an extended period, we worked to understand the requirements for a multi-region environment and determine how Stripe's applications would need to be modified to adapt to multi-region infrastructure. I eventually was the tech lead for our India data locality project, resulting in Stripe's first production core application deployment in a second AWS region. (2018-2021)

Architected most of the foundations of MokaFive BareMetal Player, a client hypervisor that runs on most commodity hardware, by combining MokaFive's virtual machine management software with the Ubuntu Linux distribution.Included tightly integrating our software with the bootup process, network stack, display and multimonitor infrastructure, and desktop experience of Ubuntu, as well as developing OS image build processes and maintaining infrastructure to support it
