Dr. Carballido worked for Shell International E&P for 17 years and in 2010 became an international oil and gas consultant. He has held a variety of technical and management roles, having extensive experience across multiple settings and over many basins worldwide. Dr. Carballido held roles in the US deepwater Gulf of Mexico as exploration and development Geologist. He participated in the assessment of upstream gas reserves in Western China for a country-wide pipeline project, and contributed to the production and planning of the largest combined LNG and oil project in offshore Russia. He acted as technical representative for Shell Development Australia in the Gorgon and North West Shelf LNG projects. For three years he was the Chief Operating Officer for ISIS Petroleum as the general manager of the consultancy with responsibility for the business plan, the technical and commercial leadership of the firm, for interfacing with global clients and for managing the entire skill base of the group. Dr. Carballido has expertise in both exploration and development of oil and gas projects. Over his career he has been a seismic interpreter, operations geologist, a company manager and joint venture representative. He has held roles where he is accountable for the strategy, planning, approval and corporate decision making. His last appointment in Australia was as Head of Upstream for Sinopec Oil and Gas. He is regarded as having creative talent across many Petroleum disciplines and for being able to manage and complete large, complex projects on time and in budget. In 2022 he acted as Director for Latina Desarrollos Energéticos overseeing their Pitepec Project for the delivery of oil production to Pemex in onshore Poza Rica, Veracruz, México. Dr. Carballido has a Ph.D. in Geology from Tulane University USA and a Bachelors in Engineering Geology from the National University of Mexico UNAM. He received a Magna Cum Laude and honorary scholastic recognition as the best geologist graduating from UNAM’s Engineering School and in 1987 was bestowed with the Mexico Citizen Award.
