Eckerd Academy is a licensed, accredited residential alternative school and outdoor therapeutic program that specializes in helping students discover innate natural strengths and achieve their maximum potential. We specialize in helping students who continue to struggle despite participating in other school or community-based counseling programs.We are constantly reviewing our current services and levels of treatment to assess where improvements and/or enhancements can be made. We have recently added a horsemanship program to Eckerd Academy of the Blue Ridge and are working toward adding the same type programs to both Eckerd Academy at Deer Lodge and Eckerd Academy at Brooksville. The staff of these programs are constantly providing ideas for enhancing services such as implementing wellness programs to help the students learn how to live healthier lifestyles. We also continually provide excellent academic experiences for our students.

  Developing the Private Division from infancy has been the most challenging and rewarding experience so far. This is very true of the GA program, Eckerd Academy of the Blue Ridge. I was given the opportunity to build it from scratch rather than transition an existing program. My responsibilities have changed often and drastically during my time at EYA. I have had operational responsibilities for several OTPs – both private and publicly funded. That gave me the opportunity to learn a lot about both sides of this industry. I had some previous experience, and was able to build on that dramatically. I have also learned the trends within the federal and state government systems with regard to level of care and funding streams. In my current role, I have the privilege of traveling and meeting some great folks who work with the families we serve to develop relationships that will allow us to provide excellent and appropriate care for these families.
