Head of Bank of India’s operations within Goa Zone, with full responsibility for the operations of all the bank branches, including interaction with Goa Port Trust, Dempo, Salgokar, and other top clients, along with government officials. He was responsible for scrutinizing and supervising all work relating to the Bank’s business, including business development, operations and implementation of Central Government policies. During this role, he implemented various Government of India development schemes including the Integrated Rural Development Programme, Self employment programmes, Pradhan Mantri Rozgaar Yojna (PMRY) to increase employment opportunities.

As head of country-wide operations for Bank of India's Card division, Unnikrishnan grew the card base by over 250% to 10+ Mn cards by introducing new products such as travel cards, gift cards; improving operational performance through technological solutions; and strengthening security features for all card products. During this time, he also represented the bank at a number of international conferences. He spoke at a conference in Hong Kong in 2010 regarding his expertise in growing the card business and how to encourage consumers in developing countries to use 'plastic money'​, i.e. cards rather than cash. He was also invited to speak at the Emerging Trends in the Card Business conference in Bali in 2011 to speak about how to eliminate the risk related to a bank's card operations.
