Los Angeles

Established in August 2011, the Westwood Village Improvement Association (WVIA) is a non-profit organization that oversees a property-based business improvement district (P-BID). The WVIA is responsible for administering programs to improve cleanliness, safety and business development within the district.I was hired along with the Executive Director at the very start of the BID’s first term and assisted the Executive Director in all aspects of BID management, including operations, communications, member services, stakeholder relations, and Board management. My primary responsibilities included oversight of district operations and management of special projects. I also served as liaison with local government agencies, elected officials, and community stakeholders.Special projects I managed included an extensive reconstruction of over 10,000 square feet of cracked and crumbling city sidewalk. I am most proud of successfully advocating for comprehensive and innovative management of the district's public parking resources through new technology and demand-based pricing with the goal of increasing parking availability and reducing traffic congestion.

Los Angeles

Councilmember Paul Koretz has represented the Fifth Council District of the City of Los Angeles since 2009. Council District 5 is home to almost 260,000 diverse residents and the boundaries run along the City’s spine in the Santa Monica Mountains and includes communities on the west side of Los Angeles from Hollywood to Bel Air, as well as communities in the San Fernando Valley.Initially hired as a Council Aide for the City Hall office, I quickly earned additional responsibilities, including assisting the Communications Director with website management and editing the office’s e-newsletter. After a year, I was promoted to Field Deputy for the Westwood neighborhood of the Council District.As Field Deputy, I represented the Councilmember to the more than 50,000 residents of the neighborhood and was responsible for handling any constituent concerns or requests for service from that community. Additionally, I staffed the Councilmember for his position on the City Council’s Energy & Environment Committee. This entailed briefing the member for committee meetings, researching issues of concern, monitoring items throughout the legislative process, and meeting with affected stakeholders.

Robie & Matthai handles complex cases at the trial and appellate levels with an emphasis on business disputes, insurance litigation and the representation of attorneys. The firm also defends judicial officers in disciplinary proceedings.This was a transitional position after moving to Los Angeles and allowed me to get to know the City and volunteer on a local City Council campaign which led to the position with Councilmember Koretz's office.

Stateside Associates provides state government relations services including legislative monitoring, issue intelligence and issue management services.As a Coordinator, I helped manage a team that monitored legislation in all 50 states on behalf of a various clients interested in issues that could affect their businesses. We tracked legislation from the moment it was introduced until final disposition and provided high-quality political intelligence on the proposed legislation’s likelihood of enactment.

As the central nonpartisan professional staffing agency for the General Assembly of Maryland, the Department of Legislative Services provides legal, fiscal, committee, research, reference, auditing, administrative, and technological support to the members of the legislature and its committees.As a Legislative Editor, I worked with a large team that was responsible for editing and proofreading bills and amendments as they went through the legislative process.
