I have been working in the Higher Education Sector for the last 5 years - mainly within the University of Essex Students’ Union. My main area is expertise is Student Engagement and in particular physical exercise and well being through Sport. When I started at the Students’ Union, I took on the role of of a Just Play Co-ordinator. My main role was to put on termly events for students to participate in. These events varied in scale of size and allowed me to further enhance my project management skills. The events I have worked on in the past have been largely successful. Some of the events planned and delivered in 2018-2019 featured student surveys; the mean S.S.S. score for these surveys was 8.9 with a highest score of 9.4 for a single event. Many of these were run with the support of volunteers and some in tandem with clubs and societies.I really enjoy working alongside and supporting students and I would welcome the opportunity to return to working in a Students’ Union with a front facing job. Before I left the SU, I worked as a Student Activities Co-ordinatior for Sport. This role required me to support all our clubs in their own personal development which I did successfully e.g. I recruited coaches for both our Badminton and Tennis Clubs. This had a positive impact on these clubs in particular Badminton who enjoyed a successful BUCS season; the men’s 1 and women’s 2 teams finished top of their respective tiers. This role allowed me to plan and deliver training - one of my strengths - to our clubs. The other key aspect of the role was being jointly responsible for the administrative side of our clubs involvement in the BUCS leagues and tournaments. This included but was not limited to: mapping out the time and location of BUCS fixtures alongside key stakeholders, entering teams and individuals into tournaments, inputting the results of home fixtures into BUCS Play, tracking participation across all our BUCS teams, arranging transport for our away teams, recruiting officials for BUCS matches etc.I am proud of what the Essex Blades BUCS teams achieved as a collective by finishing 32nd in the BUCS league table and conceding the fewest walk overs in the South Eastern Region.I would like to return to a sporting role/engagement/activities based role in a students’ Union as I feel my skill set and experience is well suited to such roles.
