After earning a BA in Comminications in 1990 Ed began his broadcasting career at Victor Duncan as the Lead Film/ Specialty Camera tech while also apprenticing as a feature/ commercial camera assistant.In 1991 joined the Chicago White Sox scoreboard staff as a cameraman and replay operator. When the United Center opened in 1994 Ed joined the scoreboard staff for the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks.Hired by Fletcher Chicago in 1996 Ed helped grow the Sports Department from 8 robotic heads to the present-day size of covering over 1500 shows per year on both local and national levels. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics Ed was a member of the swimming and diving specialty camera crew. Ed has been a part of inventing and implementing robotic camera angles as the “Above the Rim” and the“Redline” for hockey. Ed also helped to implement robotic cameras on NASCAR and NHRA. In 1998 Ed was part of a team at Fletcher that recognized an empty niche for high frame rate cameras. Ed helped implement such high frame rate cameras as the K4, I-Movix, and NAC Hi-Motion making these systems standards in the Sports Broadcast Industry. In 2012 Ed earned an Emmy for his part in developing robotic and hi-speed cameras for live sports in 3D on ESPN. Then in 2014 Ed managed over the specialty cameras for Hockey coverage at the 2014 Olympics. Duties included surveying, bidding, planning, implementation of over thirty robotic and high frame rate cameras for the two Hockey venues. Recent projects include recognizing and implementing Sony 4800 cameras to replace aging high frame rate 4K systems. Ed was part of initial discussions to improve the quality of smart-court technology and helped to develop, test, and bring to market the Trace system for tennis coverage.As a volunteer of St. Joe’s soup kitchen Ed is part of a crew that serves over 150 meals a day. Ed also volunteers at St. Thomas More on the Athletic and Parent Boards. Ed’s favorite events to cover and attend are those of his three children.
