I returned to the independent Alligator in 1976 until, due to ill health, I voluntarily retired as president and general manager in 2007. Since then I have worked part time for the Alligator as the president emeritus and corporate investigator.

President Emeritus & Publisher Emeritus Of The High Springs HeraldThe Herald Publishing Company, Inc. Dec 1990 - Jan 2008High Springs, FlThrough daily newspaper internships and work in the newsroom at the Alligator, UF students had many opportunities to put use the excellent knowledge they were gaining in the UF College of Journalism and Communications in a practical, hands-on setting. But many students were finding their first hires were at weekly newspapers, where the skills called for were quite different than those at either the Alligator or the Miami Herald. When a nearby community weekly became available for sale, the Board of Directors of Campus Communications saw it as an opportunity to extend its role as a 501 (c) (3) educational organization and purchased the newspaper. It continued to be run as a commercial newspaper, unlike The Independent Florida Alligator, with the editorial matter a mix of professional employees, stringers, and student interns. During the CCI ownership, the Herald increased its circulation from less than 1,000 weekly to more than 4,000, and its revenue to far more than that multiple. Also during that time, the Herald won far more recognitions for quality journalism than any other small weekly newspaper in Florida. Although there were other Herald editors at times, the primary force behind the paper's tremendous editorial records was Ronald Dupont Jr. CCI sold the Herald in 2007.

Former Reporter, Beat Chief, Opinions Ed, Exec. Ed, Asst Prod.Mgr, Prod Mgr, Opers Mgr;Gen.MgrCampus Communications, Inc., Dba The Independent Florida Alligator, Et Al May 1963 - 2007Gainesville And Tallahassee, FlOf course, I was not general manager in 1963, and when I began the Alligator wasn't a part of CCI. I came to UF as a married father and a US Coast Guard veteran. I started at the Alligator as a student reporter, et al, and then executive editor, assistant production manager, production manager, operations manager and finally general manager and director of the University of Florida Office of Student Publications by 1971, until the newspaper became independent in 1973. Then, due to an ethical problem I had with the request that I stay with the Alligator as it went off campus, I had to refuse to go with the independent Alligator. In 1973, I was appointed the director of publications for the university and production director of the University of Florida Presses, its scholarly book publishing arm.. In 1976, when the ethical problem no longer existed, I was fortunate enough to be chosen from among other applicants and held the position of president of the controlling corporation, Campus Communications, Inc.,and g.m. of The Independent Florida Alligator until ill health caused me to volunteer to resign from those positions in 2007, At the request of the board of directors I remain with the corporation and newspaper as the president emeritus.
