While undertaking a placement year in the BA Media course at Sheffield Hallam University I was employed by Wooden Records, an independent music label based in Manchester. Working for 22 hours per week I was required to produce video material such as music videos and footage of live music/poetry performances under the creative direction of my boss, Edward Barton, the musician who runs the label. During my time at Wooden Records I was able to further develop skills in video editing using both Adobe Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas, helped create physical props and had a reasonable amount of creative control in the conceptualization and shooting of the video material produced. I was also asked to promote the videos we released through social media, and to develop press releases and organize the distribution of music through various streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, etc. Presently I am no longer employed by Wooden Records, though my working relationship with the label has continued through being asked to provide ideas and support to their ongoing projects and releases, as well as continuing to edit videos on occasion.
