Engineer Iii

Little Rock, Arkansas Area

My journey with Windstream has been a good one. I have had the opportunity to learn and grow considerably over the years. My time with Windstream ended as a result of a company-wide layoff. This position was a continuation of my previous Engineer II position. I was promoted to Engineer III. However, instead of just reviewing maintenance operation procedures (MOP's), I was designing, reviewing, and implementing them. It was expected that the most complex designs were assigned to me. Additionally, training and supporting other engineers was expected and performed.

Engineer Ii

Little Rock, Arkansas

I changed roles within Windstream. Within this new role I will be designing maintenance operation procedures (MOP's) to either improve network performance or correct a network issue. These designs migrated DSLAM's such as Calix C7's or Adtran TA3000's or TA5000's from legacy ATM and/or Sonet uplinks to gigabit ethernet uplinks with redundancy. During the discovery phase, everything from records in an Oracle database (physical and logical designs) to provisioning were verified to be complete and correct. If not, steps were taken to correct the issue to include provisioning the network and updating the database. The network contained Cisco 7600 series switches. Alcatel-Lucent 7450 switches, Juniper MX series routers, and Alcatel-Lucent 7750 routers. After the MOP's were implemented, subscriber records were updated within an Oracle database using their MetaSolv application. This group reviewed each others MOP's as well. The group grew to about 20 engineers and was split. One side reviewed MOP's and the other side designed. them. I ended up going with the review group due to my considerable experience and expertise. Numerous applications were used:Microsoft Office 365: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, AccessVisioCrimson EditorSeveral Windstream custom application for scripting code and updating customer records.
