Ed acts as the Deputy General Counsel, supporting the Corporate Banking Group. Ed leads a team of lawyers and support staff providing legal coverage and advice to the business units and product partners within Regions' Corporate Banking Group.Prior to his time in the Legal Department, Ed worked within the business, leading the Risk, Controls, and Compliance group within Regions' Corporate Banking Group. Ed and his team acted as the lead for Regions’ Corporate Banking Group related to many risk management activities, including all things compliance and non-financial risk related. Responsibilities included:• Compliance oversight of numerous regulatory requirements, namely Anti-Tying, BIN Sponsorships, BSA/AML/OFAC (Beneficial Ownership, Customer Blacklist, Customer Due Diligence, CIP, Enhanced Due Diligence), Fair Credit Reporting Act, Flood Insurance, HMDA, Information Barriers/Control Room, Loan and Deposit Production Officers, Municipal Advisor Rule, Privacy, Regulation B, Regulation E, Third-Party Payment Processors, and UDAAP;• Leadership role related to the multiple business-level and enterprise risk committees; and• Heavily involved in several risk management programs, including BSA-related Account Closures and Appeals, Customer Complaints, Fraud / Operational Loss Analysis, GRC Issues Management, Regulatory Change Management, Reputational Risk Reviews, and Operational Risk Testing.In addition to his compliance and risk management responsibilities, Ed used his legal background to support the Corporate Banking Group. Activities include:• Lead LIBOR Contracts initiative;• Creation of Form Credit Agreements;• Oversight of the Bank’s Commercial Lending Attorney-Closing Engagement Letter; and• Leading the Bank’s Deposit Account Controls Agreement Department.Prior to Regions, Ed was a Partner at Burr & Forman LLP in the Financial Services practice group. While there, Ed defended multiple Fortune 500 financial institutions related to a variety of lending and servicing related matters through the Southeast. Further, during his tenure at Burr & Forman, Ed acted as an interim in-house counsel for a Fortune 500 financial institution, overseeing 150+ banking, auto finance, health care finance, and credit card litigation matters throughout the United States.In addition to his financial services experience, Ed also has experience defending insurance companies, railroads, restaurant chains, mining entities, and retailers in all manners of litigation. Ed is licensed to practice law in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
