Historian And Musician
CurrentAs an independent researcher I currently run Fox Historical, providing a range of historical services including historical music and instruments, historical interpretation, lecturing, workshops, teaching, experimental archaeology and research. Fox Historical Publications, an offshoot of Fox Historical, is an exciting project which exists to publish primary source material which is otherwise unavailable outside archives or academic pay-walls. I am best known for my work on the history of piracy in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, which was the subject of my MA and PhD theses, but I also have strong research interests in the sixteenth century, especially the English counter-Reformation, and Bronze-Age Britain. I am principally a social historian, but I also work in the fields of technological and economic history.
