Statistician duties included compiling individual and team stats - this was by hand long before the Internet age - and providing daily updates. Official Scorer duties included recording the events on the field, making judgement calls (hit vs. error, wild pitch vs. passed ball, earned run vs. unearned run, etc.), and sending an official game reports to the Eastern League office.
