After becoming a VT certified teacher in 1988, employed at Mt. Abe as a middle school math teacher.In 1995 took 2-year leave of absence to teach, with my wife Mary, at the International School of Latvia where I taught math, science, and PE to grades 6 to 12.Returned to Mt. Abe in 1997 to continue teaching a few sections of math and to start the personal learning department I called Horizons. Students could take for credit: senior projects, independent studies courses with a community mentor, dual college-high school enrollment, and in-school courses about setting goals, discovering career interests and taking internships.From 2000 to 2002 I was a member of the VT task force called High Schools on the Move (HSOTM) from which the personal learning Act 77 developed.
