But, if you’re interested, here’s my corporate bio:Ed Nelson was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Whataburger in August 2020, after serving as the company's President from June 2019. He’s spent the last 15 years leading the financial strategy of Whataburger, helping the brand achieve profitability and growth without compromising quality. Ed’s ability to evaluate financing options, measure risk and embrace new opportunities has allowed Whataburger to maximize its resources.Ed previously helmed Whataburger’s financial department as controller from 2004 to 2008, and chief financial officer (CFO) from 2008 to 2019, overseeing all finance, accounting, tax, treasury and business risk and reporting operations for more than 825 restaurants across 10 states. Ed’s first priority in financial management is to “preserve and protect the business, then grow and prosper, while understanding its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.”He was key in managing the company’s debt structure and financing, while keeping a pulse on QSR industry trends. Ed believes that good finance involves understanding the entire business, leading with a servant heart, and taking care of the Whataburger Family Members.Prior to joining Whataburger, Ed spent his career in the finance field of the food service industry. He received his bachelor’s degree in finance and master’s of accountancy from Clemson University. He is also a CPA.Ed believes that Whataburger's success relies on hiring dedicated Family Members, investing in their careers, and acquiring the best systems to serve our customers. Using Whataburger's five-perspective approach, Ed has learned that by using excellent leadership and communication with our people and ensuring use of our operational systems, Whataburger can naturally delight our customers — which results in great financial performance.Ed won the San Antonio Business Journal’s Best CFO Award in 2012, and has been twice honored with the Whataburger Chairman’s Award — in 2009 and 2015 — for his leadership and dedication to the company.
