Foster Youth for Hillary is a revolutionary movement to engage the voices of foster youth in the 2016 election and to mobilize support among foster youth, alumni of the foster care system, and supports for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. For the first time in our nation’s history, alumni of the foster care system have formed a political action committee to galvanize support for a candidate for the Oval Office.The movement was founded by Lexie Gruber and Sixto Cancel, both alumni of the Connecticut foster care system and current child welfare professionals. With an executive Committee composed of former foster youth and a varied volunteer base, they work to engage Americans across their country to support one of the nation’s most effective child advocates: Hillary Clinton.In the words of Hillary, “to drive real progress, you have to change both hearts and laws.” That’s why the Foster Youth for Hillary campaign has created a robust policy platform to inform voters about Hillary’s amazing legacy for children and families, and to address the outstanding issues in our child welfare system that they hope Hillary will address when in office.The Foster Youth for Hillary campaign understands that voting is the most possible tool to improve the futures of foster children. That’s why they’ve set out to register as many foster children as possible. But they’re not just planning to do voter registration. Foster Youth for Hillary is going to empower foster youth and their allies to become civically active Americans by hosting phone banks, organizing canvassing and even holding a Town Hall.
