I am a happy, productive, amicable worker and manager. I have excellent writing and communication skills and can address large audiences with aplomb. I love digging into new challenges be it writing new code or cracking that tough customer to find what's best for him in the long run. Having been a project manager in one form or another since 1996 I can envision the aspects of a project and the importance of a deadline and testing and documentation... It's hard to "ruffle my feathers" and I rarely ruffle others. Respect the people you work with even if you think they're completely wrong or you shouldn't expect their respect when you're wrong. (It could happen !) I believe a good manager is genuinely interested in his/her individual staff and promotes a cooperative environment. In return a worker with a sense of community and purpose will be more productive and loyal.

PresidentInfinity Software Solutions, Inc. Feb 2002 - PresentAs president of Infinity Software Solutions I am responsible for everything; sales, system design, programming, documentation, installation and support , payroll, maintenance... I am the primary contact for modifications, support and advice. I design and write all design specs and proposals. From the moment the initial project request comes in I handle the entire project cycle from interpretation of what the customer is asking for to what they really need (they're not always the same thing), to installing the modification and providing training and support. It all falls on me. I code using primarily COBOL with a mix of VB and SQL and the occasional smattering of C or assembler. We develop software for use on Windows, Unix and Linux. We modify a lot of CounterPoint version 7. I carry on all of the good habits I've picked up over the past 25 years of documenting, coding and support and deny any knowledge of my bad habits. I continue to modify payroll systems and create many wide-ranging modifications. They run the gamut from integrating EMV and level-3 credit card processing into a multi-million line POS system (CounterPoint) to add-ons for the restaurant industry. My last modification was numbered 965 (as of October 2019). I’ve been a busy boy ! I must be doing something right. -
Director Of DevelopmentCustom Software Experts Feb 1996 - Feb 2002I revolutionized this company's software development. When I got there they had no standards for coding, documentation or work flow. They didn't use email because they didn't have an Internet connection. They didn't have a network to store and backup common, shared or important information. Their client's source code was scattered across several drives. They delivered modified programs loose on a diskette through the mail then waited for the client to call for directions on how to install the mod. I took ownership of these areas and created an environment where we could crank out a couple of mods a day. All mods were cataloged, fully documented and shipped with an installation script. One of my more interesting mods was Y2k. (Remember that ?) I wrote a program that repositoried COBOL source code then identified and expanded date fields within FDs and Working Storage (including copyfiles) to create Y2k compliant code that desk-checked to be 90-95% ready for compilation. I then used this utility to create the first (and best) version of Y2k-compliant RealWorld (versions 6.5m and 6.6m). I provided primary support for all modifications and wrote all proposals. I was actually happy working here until the boss' increasingly bizarre behaivior convinced me that I needed to form my own company.

Senior Programmer/AnalystCollier/Jackson Pr/Hr (Now Geac) Oct 1994 - Feb 1996This company specialized in Payroll and Human resources software. They catered to the big installations like Boeing and Dow Corning as well as the "smaller" TGIFs and such. Their direct competition was PeopleSoft (I believe). More COBOL and scripting for various platforms. Their software ran on many combinations of OSs and hardware. I coded their payroll software and traveled to several locations to perform on-site solutions.

Programmer/AnalystLockheed Martin Nov 1993 - Oct 1994Bethesda, Md, UsNeeding to find a job quickly after RWC relocated I took a job an hour away in a truly corporate environment. We processed the nightly expense accounts for all of Martin Marietta and General Electric's Engine Division. COBOL on PCs with an amazing amount of batch programming. We actually used batch files like programs. This was a consulting position and was quite a drive. When Martin merged with Lockheed they closed the office. My supervisor offered me a position in their new office in Sarasota. My wife and I drove down there to check it out but it just wasn't my kind of town (ala Frank Sinatra) so I passed and looked local. -
ProgrammerRealworld Feb 1993 - Nov 1993I had just been wiped out by hurricane Andrew and needed to relocate. Having years of experience coding RealWorld I (and they) thought it was a natural for me to work here. I worked here during a period of their transition. They had just wrapped their first graphical project (a flop) and we had just started coding version 7 when they relocated the development office to New Hampshire. None of us went up there (which is why version 7 was also a flop). But it was a good experience having a highly structured coding environment.

Senior Programmer/AnalystComputerpro Software Jun 1989 - Jan 1993Primarily I modified RealWorld Accounting software using COBOL/DOS. (Windows wasn't around much then.) I wrote a vertical that defined and tracked advertising within publications and was the primary support contact for it (which ultimately introduced me to my wife). I also wrote many other mods related to payroll processing such as an add-on for processing payroll in the Bahamas (which have their own requirements).
