Whittier, Alaska And Seward, Alaska

Directed all aspects of terminal operations at two major port facilities serviced by the Alaska Railroad- The Port of Whittier and the Port of Seward. Both facilities operate barge, passenger, container and intermodal operations, while Seward houses the coal terminal. Whittier is the northern most ice free port serviced by the Alaska Railroad. It has the most inhospitable weather along the entire rail belt, averaging over 200+ inches of rain and 300+ inches of snow each year. Tidal fluctuations exceeding 16 ft are common. During the winter of 2011/2012, Whittier received an official annual snow fall of 507 inches, setting a new snowfall record. Extensive experience planning and managing crews, assuring rail car and locomotive requirements are suffcient to conduct barge operations. Developed strategic operating plans ensuring resources are effectively allocated and injury exposure is minimized. Assured safety compliance through extensive operational monitoring, efficiency testing and mentoring. Developed barge and train load out plans to ensure hazardous material segregation met Coast Guard and Federal Railroad reguirements. Drafted and issued current instruction on how transportation employees are to report and document locomotive failures and service interruptions.

Adapted and performed duties safely on 14 dispatch desks within the Twin Cities, Colorado and Montana divisions. Extensive experience with CTC, ABS and TWC while working some of the busiest jobs on the BNSF system (ex. East and West Humps- Minneapolis, Brush and Denver South).
