Appointed by Governor Scott Walker (R) and confirmed by the state senate to serve as Cabinet Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The DOC is the state's largest public safety agency and the largest cabinet agency with over 10,300 employees and a biennial budget over $2.5 billion dollars. The DOC has over 400 employee classifications, including 5,500 uniformed officers and 1,200 Probation and Parole Agents. The DOC has 38 institutions, 10 Regional Offices and 120 Field Offices across the state. The Department is responsible for over 90,000 persons in various stages of incarceration, probation or parole.As Secretary, worked directly with the US Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) in developing corrections reform programs with the countries of Armenia and Georgia. Led delegations to both countries on two occasions, meeting with the US Ambassadors and their staff to formulate program objectives. Additionally, met with the Armenian President and the Georgian Prime Minister and their top ministers to collaborate on training, equipment, standards, protocols and other issues involved in corrections reform and human rights initiatives.

Appointed by the Attorney General to the sworn law enforcement agency head position of Administrator of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation. The DCI is responsible for investigating crimes that are statewide in nature or importance. DCI Special Agents and civilian staff work closely with local and county officials to investigate and prosecute crimes involving homicide, arson, financial crimes, illegal gaming, computer and white collar crimes, drug trafficking, government corruption and crimes against children. The DCI also includes the State Fire Marshal's office and the State's Intelligence Fusion Center.

Appointed by Governor Jim Doyle (D) and confirmed by the state Senate, to serve as Administrator of the Division of Emergency Management within the Department of Military Affairs. The Division of Emergency Management is responsible for the state's efforts to prepare and respond to natural and man made disasters. The division is also responsible for monitoring the state's chemical facilities, training initiatives with county and local officials as well as Emergency Police and Fire Service coordination during mutual aid requests.

Special Agent In Charge of the Division of Criminal Investigation's Investigative Services Bureau. In that assignment, oversaw the division's investigative assets as well as the intelligence section, the state's intelligence fusion center, Amber Alert program, Crime Alert Network and the Technical Services Unit.

Served as a uniformed State Trooper in a rural patrol for five years before being assigned as a Detective to work undercover in the Narcotics Investigation Unit for five years. Left New Hampshire to join the Wisconsin Department of Justice in my wife's home state.
