I grew up in a small town in East Tennessee. When I was in middle School I had a local paper route through the town. During my weekly paper route, I would find myself stopping in at our local Courthouse. I was curious to find out how our friends and neighbors worked out their disputes and solved their problems. It was in that local Courthouse, that I came to admire and respect the lawyers and Judges. It was also in that local Courthouse that I developed my passion for helping others who could not navigate the legal process alone. After High School, I graduated from East Tennessee State University with Honors in 1989. Shortly before graduation from college, I met the love of my life. I decided to attend Law School at Cumberland School of Law. After my first year of Law School, I was hired as a Law Clerk by a hometown Law Firm, Arrington, Schelin & Herrell. I continued working as a Law Clerk until my graduation from Law School in 1993 at which time I was hired as an Associate Attorney. I married the love of my life in 1991 and we moved back to East Tennessee upon my graduation from Law School. As a result, I limited my practice to Workers' Compensation and related Labor and Employment issues. I became a Partner and Manager of the Workers' Compensation Department of the Firm in 2000 and continued working there until 2016 when I was appointed as a Deputy Commissioner with the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission.
