Gaining experience in the NOC department of one the most important fibre-optic backbone network which deals with a variety of technologies making the concept of networking come alive. The following were some of my duties:-Ensuring visiting customers were pre-approved to access Viatel’s Datacentre using a host of systems including Rack tables and Customer Databases.-Escorting customers to their hosted equipment, while ensuring that all other customer hosted equipment remained secure.-Performing daily power readings in the Datacentre to ensure that there was adequate power available in each cabinet, and that no newly installed equipment was drawing too much power (which could potentially cause the power feed to an entire rack to trip).-Performed an audit of NOC PC’s and sourced upgraded parts, in order to increase speed and creativeness of the equipment, making the NOC more productive overall.-Assisted with supporting xDSL customers, providing input and assistance to out front-line support engineers.
