I am the senior manager within IT responsible for 5 specific areas:Student Records System (SITS:Vision & ecosystem)VLE (Blackboard & ecosystem including Panopto)M365 (e-mail, calendaring, Teams, collaborative tools) & CRMsReporting (PowerBI, Datawarehousing, Business Objects)I also chair the multi-disciplinary group responsible for providing advice to anyone in the organisation on IT Procurements.My role is to ensure that systems are fit for purpose, available as and when required, and future-proof. In order to do this I manage teams which provide the support or development of these systems, provide the leadership and management required to instil the appropriate priorities within the teams, ensure the IT standards to which the department aspires are upheld and ensure the cultural and managerial ideals of the university are maintained in my area. My role involves both strategic planning for the long term technical and business requirements of the systems, as well as being able to provide pragmatic, practical solutions to immediate short/mid-term problems. In order to be able to meet both of these, I am required to have specialist knowledge of both the technical aspects/capabilities of the systems & teams I am responsible for, and the business processes for the functional areas the systems provide processes for. I am required to translate complex multi-faceted technical issues and solutions to non-technical senior staff (PVC/Director level and below), and also to translate senior staff requirements and directives into real technical outcomes, where possible.
