I design and build a range of experimental musical instruments, ranging from acoustic kalimbas to hybrid electroacoustic zithers and amplifiers. I have released electronic dancefloor music as Ed Devane on a variety of labels including Touchin' Bass, Mantrap Recordings, Takeover Recordings and Spacebar Sentiments. More recently I have concentrated on electroacoustic composition and electronic improvisation under the name Withering Zithering. In my role as Teaching Assistant I work with undergrad and masters students in the Department of Computer Science & Information Systems (CSIS). I co-create module content with lecturer Nicholas Ward and deliver labs (and occasionally lectures) in Physical Computing and Digital Fabrication. In addition I offer individual mentoring to students who require assistance with electronics, interaction design or fabrication. The department is equipped with a laser cutter and 3D printer in a dedicated lab as well as an electronics prototyping lab, both of which I am principally tasked with managing.

In my role as technician I support students with matters related to electronics, Arduino, Processing and general technical issues.

Covering City & Guilds levels 2 and 3 Autocad 2D and 3D. Teaching fundamentals of 2D draughting, computer aided design, and specific functionality of AutoDesk AutoCAD software.

Makeshop is a maker space and shop in Dublin. Originating in 2012 as a pop-up shop related to the Hack the City exhibition in the Science Gallery, the shop offers walk in workshops based around electronics and craft with an educational emphasis on science and technology. In my time at the Makeshop I facilitated workshops both in the shop's own workshop area and in external locations. In addition to this, I tended the til and helped customers with their enquiries. Makeshop @ Science Gallery is an initiative of Trinity College Dublin.
