In 1991 initiated and led a 1.25 Million GBP management buy out of the Woodend Communications Group mobile phone businesses with support from a private investment group and the Bank of Scotland.Expanded into the retail market with the opening of eight retail outlets while building a direct sales force in the business to business sector and in 1992 formed Woodend Telecom Limited to sell business telephone systems to existing and new customersResponsible for negotiating favourable terms from equipment suppliers, network operators and finance houses. Developed strong working relationship with the group's bankers and in 1993 bought out the outside investors.Major AchievementsResponsible for re-branding the group and raising its profile through marketing and advertising initiatives and expanded the group from 15 staff and 5 million GBP turnover in 1991 to 105 staff and 25 million GBP turnover by 1996.In 1996 after a period of sustained growth negotiated the sale of the mobile phone companies to Scottish Power plc in a deal which valued the group in excess of 8 million GBP.

Responsible for the finance operation of seven companies spread over four locations throughout the UK engaged in the retail distribution of telecommunications equipment and mobile phone billing.Oversaw the development and implementation of bespoke computerized billing systems for mobile phone usage and personal paging equipment,

The group was the biggest retail distributor of photocopying equipment and large screen television projection equipment in Scotland with turnover in excess of 20million GBP.Responsible for the entire accounts function of 9 separate companies spread over 12 locations throughout the UK.Responsible for credit control and cash management and negotiating the group overdraft facility with the group bankers. Responsible for computerizing the group's leasing book and introduction of stock control systems.In 1987 led the negotiations for the disposal of the two largest companies

The company was part of the Scottish and Universal Investments Group and was the biggest publisher of weekly newspapers in Scotland with a turnover in excess of 20 million GBP in 1981 operating out of 5 print centres.

SUITS was the holding company for a diverse range of wholly owned subsidiaries including Whyte and MacKay, George Outram, Holmes McDougall, Daniel Greenaway, Strathmore Springs and Scottish and Universal Newspapers. Group turnover in 1980 was approximately 200millon GBP. SUITS also owned 24% of House of FraserResponsible for preparation of the head office accounts and consolidation of the monthly accounts, annual statutory accounts, annual budgets and weekly, monthly and annual cash flow forecasts for fifteen subsidiaries.
