About Eddie Procter

A postdoctoral landscape researcher and thinker combining a day job as a Public Rights of Way Officer with freelance landscape, topography and heritage writing and consultancy. Regularly blogs on landscape-related subjects and contributes to other sites, publications and events.A career-changer awarded a doctorate in landscape archaeology and landscape history in 2019, with considerable experience of practical fieldwork, GIS and desk-based research, presenting academic papers and published journal articles. Demonstrable high-level transferable skills and experience, including: training; presenting; report writing; team, project and resource management.I am particularly interested in the interface between landscape history and cultural geography; in what could be termed, deep topography. My research takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the fields of landscape archaeology, landscape history and cultural landscapes; specifically, the evolution of the landscape through the early medieval period to the present day. Within this context, upland and monastic landscapes, hodology and routes through the landscape, landscape etymology, landscape topology, walking as research practice, field photography and survey, and historic and digital mapping are of particular interest. I am also interested in culture-nature debates and tensions inherent in landscape discourse. Geographically, my research has generally centred on the south-eastern Welsh Marches, Gloucestershire, Somerset, and the Pennines.
