Hi! I am a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in the Counseling/ Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program, with an emphasis in Counseling Psychology. At UCSB, I work under the mentorship of Dr. Alison Cerezo in their Social & Health Equity (S.H.E.) Lab.Before UCSB, I received my B.A. in Psychology at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). At CSUN, I was an NIH-funded Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) Promoting Opportunities for Diversity in Education and Research (PODER) scholar where I worked as a researcher under the mentorship of Dr. Stefanie A. Drew in her Visual Information Science and Neuroscience (VISN) Lab. My research at CSUN focused on the utilization of technology as a medium for reducing barriers and increasing accessibility to educational resources. Prior to CSUN, I attended Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) where I successfully obtained my A.A. in Psychology, Sociology, Women Studies, and Chicano Studies. As a first-generation Guatemalan-American, I take pride in the many facets of my identity that I bring forth as a student, researcher, and scholar. Ultimately, I aspire to join academia as a professor to increase first-generation Latine representation, provide culturally responsive mentorship for underrepresented students, and continue producing research aimed at reducing barriers and increasing access to resources among historically minoritized and marginalized communities.
