Senior Policy Manager - Crime Prevention, Fire & Bluelight Collaboration And Complex Needs
CurrentMy role with the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) is to support and advise directly elected PCCs on:▪︎Prevention; ▪︎Bluelight Collaboration; ▪︎Police and Fire Governance; and ▪︎Mental Health & Custody.This exciting role includes line management responsibilities of policy and research team.In 2017, the government passed legislation enabling PCCs to replace Fire & Rescue Authorities, subject to Home Secretary approval. My role is to advise and support PCCs with business cases and consultations, and to liaise with the Home Office. To date, 5 PCCs have successfully received Home Secretary approval. Additionally, I work alongside PCCs on bluelight collaboration, identifying barriers and solutions and working with fire, police and health leads to develop national tools and guidance. I am also responsible for overseeing the Mental Health and Custody portfolio. This involves liaising with PCCs to influence national decision making and policy including the Right Care, Right Person approach, as well as engaging with national stakeholders, with the aim of improving delivery of services to people suffering from mental health issues within the criminal justice system and freeing up police resources.

Working for the Rt Hon Jane Kennedy, Merseyside's first directly elected Police and Crime Commissioner following the November 2012 election.Duties include researching criminal justice issues and briefing the Commissioner. Research covers a range of topics including the work of parners as I am responsible for forging links with criminal justice agencies and others such as housing and health.Information supplied to the Commissioner must be accurate and timely as it is used by the Commissioner when answering questions from the public, media or other politicians. My other responsibilities include managing a Horizon Scanning process by researching legislation and reforms in order to brief the Commissioner. Information I supply is used to help inform decision making and lobby Parliament.I administer Merseyside Community Safety Partnership on behalf of the Commissioner. My role is to ensure criminal justice partners - including prisons, probation, police, health and youth offending teams are aware of funding issues, strategies and communications from the Commissioner. To fulfill this role I act as gatekeeper to the Partnership, ensuring the Commissioner, chief executive and partners adhere to the meeting's governance. I ensure that the work of the Partnership is aligned to the Commisssioner`s Police and Crime Plan through the agendas and reports I provide.I have successfully delivered a commissioning tender to appoint a restorative justice delivery partner for Merseyside. This project included managing a £50,000 budget, creating a specification for tender, responding to queries and assessing applications. This service went live on 1st July 2015. I also led a project to implement new anti-social behaviour legislation. I manage a custody visitor scheme. Further to this I update the Commissioner's Twitter account ( @merseysidepcc), website and provide content for speeches.

The role required excellent levels of accuracy the ability to work at speed and under pressure. It was important to build contacts within other Government departments with whom I could request vital information.Additionally, I volunteered to train new members of staff and after developing my experience in this role I was given the responsibility of Interim Team Leader, which involved managing the Administration Team, meeting with Senior Management and providing solutions to any problems encountered.My dedication and commitment to this role ultimately led to my promotion to Administration Officer.
