My appreciation for the healing and growth that can become inspired from a genuinely caring interpersonal experience began many years ago in my first semester as a marriage and family therapy graduate student. My time within that programopened my eyes to my own personal process of development and served as the inspiration to finish my second bachelor’s degree in art and design before completing my graduate studies. This experience allowed for a cultivation of my differentiated outlook of mental health. In my time away from behavioral science graduate studies, I was fortunate to be able to explore and gain insight from solving communication struggles from an artistic perspective.My journey has also been one rooted in spirituality and faith. These will always serve as tenets within my personal narrative, however, my approach to counseling is non-coercive. As such, each of my client’s personal choices and perspectives will be both acknowledgedand respected. The specialization in my graduate studies was in addictions and recovery, however, my training addresses a diverse list of struggles. My master’s degree from the school of behavioral sciences has provided me with the opportunity to operate from well established clinical approaches instituted in accredited research. While also granting theopportunity to nurture aspects of spiritual development only if a client so chooses.The client-focused approach I utilize considers the tenets of an eclectic group of methodologies. Solution-focused approaches, motivational interviewing, family systems theory, CBT, and attachment theory are some of the main sources incorporated within the foundations of my methods. I view counseling as a journey rooted in teamwork between the client and counselor. Each individual client knows and understands themselves from a completely genuine perspective, as such, they contain the answers to their struggles. My motivation as a counselor is to facilitate a collaborative effort that draws out these answers. In all, these motivations are founded in the belief that confrontation is noteffective without first establishing empathy, and that trust within the collaborative relationship is required to acknowledge denial within a journey of self accountability.Warm Regards,Edward Wise M.A.P.C.
