My work revolves around enabling others to learn more about nature and science in a fun, interactive and engaging way. Whether I'm commentating on television or helping others to learn birdsong, I'm communicating ideas, words and methods so they are accessible, enjoyable and effective, leaving others feeling empowered, confident, better informed and likely to return for more.My work ranges from taking schools fossil hunting on beaches to leading wildlife tours around the world. I am a reporter for BBC Radio 4's natural history programmes and frequently appear on radio and tv as a science-related contributor or consultant. Throughout the year I teach birdsong and during the spring take groups out to listen to the dawn chorus. I train others to learn more about science communication, how to develop and deliver workshops in schools, and how to better present and talk in front of an audience. I show people wildlife on boats down the Avon Gorge and in the Exe Estuary, and have been enabling different audiences to survey their local green spaces through sweep-netting and tree-tapping as part of a wider outreach project by the Bristol Natural History Consortium. I have 14 years experience of designing, delivering, evaluating and reporting on effective learning programmes, events and activities for schools and families. More recently I have turned my experience into training others to develop skills, opportunities and positive attitudes towards biology, learning outdoors, and working with schools. I have studied Peregrines for 16 years and my work has recently culminated in a book 'Urban Peregrines' now available in shops. I have been colour-ringing their young, studying their diet, and helping others to learn more about the fastest bird in the world!
