As Electrical Project Engineer, I oversaw the construction and delivery of site accommodation & utilities for 1400 personnel with a total value of 40MUSD as part of a team of three engineers at Sakhalin island in Russia.I rigorously checked Subcontractor’s Technical Document Register, Procurement Tracking Register and Construction Progress Reports and reported to management delays in engineering, procurement and construction works along with proposed solutions to be discussed with and implemented by Subcontractor. I also supervised the conceptualisation and management of design drawings by the Russian Design Institute and followed up the review / comments resolution with Client and Petrofac engineering offices in UAE and India to expedite processes. I proactively worked collaboratively with various departments in conformance to quality, health & safety standards, and timely delivery of contractual obligations within the allocated budget / financial targets. Being a good communicator, I responded to letters from Client and Subcontractor regarding major issues such as delivery delays, cost variations, claims, and change orders. Furthermore, I acted as chair to a weekly report meeting to management, both Customer and Petrofac project directors and construction managers, on project progress against program and budget targets. I also provided support to the Subcontract department with the preparation and review of scope of work, price schedule and responsibility matrix for new subcontract agreements, engaged with potential Subcontractors for discussions and clarification. I accurately identified technical issues in the site and discussed with the construction manager, providing assistance in resolving problems. I forged a strong and effective working relationship with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.

It was my duty as Electrical Engineer II to assist the lead electrical engineers in completing the FEED verification and cost estimation of various proposals of 50MUSD. Here I undertook the timely preparation of the costing file for electrical equipment (generators, switchgears, packaged substations, transformers, UPS, motors) and bulk materials (cables, glands, lugs, terminations kits, jointing kits, cable trays & ducts, MCTs). I intelligently forecasted the Proposal man-hours and Project man-hours for electrical discipline after gathering relevant data. I also projected the electrical load list and cable schedule for sizing the electrical system and estimating the cable quantities needed for the operations. I worked collaboratively with other departments to come up with input files for other disciplines, such as the heat loss calculation for electrical equipment which needs to be given to the HVAC discipline. I diligently read and evaluated proposal documents and send technical queries to Client requesting additional information when necessary, clarifying certain requirements or conflict in proposal documents, etc. I generated Bill of Quantities for subcontractors to obtain proper estimates of construction cost. Moreover, I prepared logistics BOQ for proper estimation of shipment cost for electrical equipment and bulk material. I also floated Inquiry Requisitions for various electrical equipment (switchgears, transformers, etc…), review vendor offers for pricing and quality and send Technical Queries to vendors for clarifications. I participated in various technical review meetings with senior engineers on load list, Take-offs, cost, etc.

In my previous role, I was responsible for preparing equipment specifications, datasheets, sizing calculations and other engineering documents. I proactively led and guided designers for the preparation of equipment drawings. I managed the procurement process by requesting Inquiry Requisitions, review vendor offers, prepare Technical Queries & price schedules, perform Technical Bid Evaluations and issue Purchase Requisitions to vendors. I actively interacted with vendors to conduct Kick Off Meetings, review vendor documents, attend factory acceptance testing for equipment at vendor fabrication shops in Italy & Spain, sign test reports & Inspection and Test Plans, and ensured the closure of all punch / Hold points. Moreover, I conducted scrutinous review of internal engineering documents in connection with handled packages. I constantly participated in 3D model reviews at 30%, 60% and 90% design stage noting any flaws in the design and making recommendations for modification if necessary. Furthermore, I engaged in meetings with the Client, when required, to answer technical queries and review engineering documents across the table. I acted as leader to site engineers through providing clarifications, guidance and technical support. Lastly, I conducted visits to the construction site in Algeria when required.Achievements:• Enhanced the UPS systems’ safety of operation and maintenance by:o Providing fully redundant bypass system and distribution board for safety critical instruments.o Installing a DC link between the two 50% capacity batteries of the two 100% capacity UPS units.o Placing a warning label on the static switches which remain energized even when the UPS unit is isolated for online maintenance.• Completed the Temporary Facilities’ electrical scope on time despite the tight schedule.• Significantly reduced the total cost of solar power systems by US$4 million through challenging other disciplines to provide accurate consumers rating and running time.
