My practice focuses on workplace safety compliance and strategic safety planning, defense of employers in workplace health and safety cases including contest of OSHA citations, advice and assistance to employers in responding to workplace catastrophes, advice and advocacy for employers in legislative and regulatory matters and handling whistleblower claims investigated by OSHA. I was the Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA from April,2006 until November, 2008. I was also Chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission from March,1990 until April, 1994. I am the only person in the country to serve in both positions

Ed knows the ISO 45001 inside and out. He was on the team that put it all together using international health and safety standards to guide them along the way. He co-chairs Fisher Phillips’ Workplace Safety and Catastrophe Management Practice Group, as well — making him an expert for strategically leading Fisher Phillips Safety Solutions. Prior to joining Fisher Phillips, Ed was the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. Named by President George W. Bush to head the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), he served from April 2006 to November 2008.​Ed brings more than 30 years of experience in the labor and employment area, focusing on occupational safety and health issues, workplace violence risk assessment and prevention, whistleblower protection, and accident and fatality prevention.

As head of OSHA, I was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the agency and it 2,200 employees. I also oversaw the inspection, enforcement, rulemaking, whistleblower programs.
