I am a recent graduate of Willamette University (2020-2024) where I received a bachelor of science in chemistry. My journey as a researcher began in 2022 under Dr. Sarah Kirk and Dr. Scott Meyer where I worked on the synthesis of tetracaine derivatives with different substituents on its aromatic ring as potent calcium ion channel blockers to deter the effect of the degenerative eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa. Following this I joined Dr. Cooper battles lab in the fall of 2022 working as a biochemical research assistant working on DNA/RNA biomedical duplex sensors to detect the presence of diseases such as melanoma. During my summer before senior year I participated in UC Irvines SURF fellowship allowing me to work as an organic chemist research temp under Dr. Gregory A. Weiss and current organic PhD student Karissa Kenney working on the synthesis of unnatural NADH like cofactors with high reduction potentials in hopes of driving aldehyde dehydrogenases native function in reverse to turn aldehydes into useful chemical commodities. In the fall of 2023 I began organic research in Coopers lab synthesizing Rylene Dye derivatives for fluorescent supramolecular sensors, to be used for the detection of host-guest complex formation. I worked on this project until the end of my undergraduate studies and completed an undergraduate thesis on the project. My professors, colleagues, and the research I have had the pleasure of being a part of has sparked my desire for scientific discovery. After these opportunities, I am determined to become the best organic chemist I can be and have chosen to further my education by obtaining an organic chemistry PhD at Boston University.
