My teams helped build a multi-tier SaaS application. They built the components to import data into the application, export it after processing, and use SOAP Web Services to link all of this work. I coordinated the builds of these and other components by geographically distributed teams. One of my teams then improved the performance of the product by speeding up the importing and analysis of the data..
  • Dataguise

I lead the project to convert the company’s product from a single-user desktop application to a multi-user, multi-tiered J2EE system with a Web UI. I first led the redesign of the system. Then one of my teams built the backend and the other built the Web UI that I designed. I took over the management of a QA team in India. I improved the quality of the product by getting QA and development to communicate with each other and to follow standard, well-defined QA procedures.
  • Spikesource
    Senior Engineering Manager
    Spikesource Sep 2007 - Jun 2010
    Mountain View, California, Us
Manager of backends, deployment, and QA; The product was a hosted build, test, and certification system with a Web UI. I managed the team that built the backend (a provisioning system written in Java) that the build and test systems depend on. My team built the Web services (in Java and Python) that link the multi-tier system. We also built the UIs that monitored and controlled the system.I also directed the on-time and successful deployments of the multi-tier system, coordinating the work between the IT department and the distributed development groups in India and the U.S. I and my group also did much of the day-to-day IT work for the bank of machines used by the entire engineering department.I managed the design and the on-time first release of the Web UI for the “build” portion of the product. I later took over the design of the Web UI for the “test” portion of the product when issues and disagreements arose. I led a redesign that overcame the previous issues and led to the successful release of the UI.I took over the management of a distributed QA team to coordinate the work of testers in India (two locations) and the U.S. I improved the quality of the product by getting both QA and development to communicate with each other and to follow standard, well-defined QA procedures.

Builder of video import and export software The products I worked on, Pinnacle Studio and Liquid Edition, are video editors. II wrote modules with DirectShow that create video files for iPods, Sony PSPs, and Blu-ray Discs.I created modules that imported video from capture devices. I rebuilt DirectShow modules to import video from camcorders. I built a UI for importing video files from AVCHD camcorders.
  • Callixa
    Director Of Development
    Callixa 2000 - 2003
Manager of UIs, Connectivity, and Documentation. The product was a virtual database, a gateway to databases such as Oracle and SQL Server. I designed and my small group built (in Java) "slick, eye-catching" UIs that allowed users to use a complex system quickly and easily. The successful completion of the UIs led to the company getting continued funding. I then brought in engineers from the rest of the company who wanted to work in my group. My team was assigned the projects whose on-time completion was vital to the company. My team added features to the gateway backend in C++ and ported it to Windows 2000. (The on-time completion of this project allowed the company to get funding from Intel.) We took over the stalled project to enable applications and end-users to get data from the gateway. We designed and built the JDBC driver; we revamped the ODBC driver.
  • Burst.Com
    Manager, Ui And Connectivity Group
    Burst.Com 1997 - 2000
The product was a server that delivered multimedia files to media players. I designed and implemented a media player in Java. The successful demonstration of the player downloading and playing movies from the server led to the company getting a new round of funding. I then built the UI and connectivity group by hiring new members and bringing in engineers from the rest of the company who asked to transfer to my group. That team built software in C++ that enabled other applications, such as Microsoft's Windows Media Player, to download and play media files from our company's server. (When we finished that project early and put in a key feature no competitor's product had, our company got another round of funding.)I designed and implemented how the product worked with Web pages and other applications. This allowed the product to be successfully downloaded and used by over 10,000 client machines around the world.
