First Close Partners backs venture funds owned by underrepresented managers (“URMs”) -- especially to help them get to a “first close.” We invest in venture capital firms owned and operated by URMs who are people of color, women, LGBTQIA+, Indigenous people, people with disabilities, and members of other groups that have been historically underrepresented, especially (but not solely) in the venture capital industry. The venture capital funds into which we have invested are predominantly located in the US, Europe and Africa.

The Historic Fund is a nonprofit fund of funds supporting Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) by donating fully-funded limited partnership (LP) interests in a portfolio of venture capital (VC) funds into the endowments of HBCUs. The Historic Fund's coalition of venture capital firms recognizes that racial equity is crucially important to our nation’s future. Our VC industry has not historically been the most inclusive nor mindful of its broader social context. The Historic Fund is an effort to put venture capital to work to support the tremendous legacy and continued efforts of HBCUs to level the playing field and fuel the education and advancement of the Black community. We make this investment in HBCUs because we believe the returns to our society at large will be immense.

VentureCrushFG (formerly First Growth Venture Network) is a program for high potential, seed and early stage start-up tech entrepreneurs in and around New York City. First Growth takes high potential entrepreneurs and accelerates their "first growth" by (1) connecting them with venture capitalists, angel investors, successful entrepreneurs and advisors, all of whom have spent years in and around technology start-ups; (2) connecting each start-up with a First Growth Advisor Team of 3 or 4 successful network members who will serve as mentors to the team; (3) providing regular opportunities for substantive information and networking with the broader First Growth community; and (4) providing a peer group of other high potential tech leadership teams in the First Growth program.

Work Study...I said "Hi" to people and, usually, asked how they were doing. I also stamped books in and out. Sometimes I shelved books. People were incredibly kind and this afforded me an opportunity to have much needed pocket money during college.

I sliced, slathered, sold & served chewy, wonderful circular carbohydrates at the bagel shop near my Junior High School. I worked the graveyard shift and burned my fingers packing large brown paper bags of freshly baked bagels before sunrise on Saturday mornings so that supermarkets across the Tri State Area could have the joy of Brooklyn bagels for the weekend!
