Ed Haden founded Balch & Bingham’s Appellate Practice Group, has over twenty-five years of government and private practice experience for energy, healthcare, and general corporate clients, and is the author of the Alabama Appellate Practice Guide. Ed also serves as the chairman of the Standing Committee on the Alabama Rules of Appellate Procedure. He specializes in knowing the written and unwritten rules, practices, and policies that are critical in obtaining a favorable decision on the merits. Before joining the firm, Ed served as the Nominations and Constitutional Law Counsel on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee for Chairman Orrin Hatch and as Chief Counsel of the Courts Subcommittee for Senator Jeff Sessions. Ed clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of Alabama. Ed has:- Successfully obtained review of a district court order certifying a class action against a healthcare client that led to the reversal of class certification;- Helped reverse FERC orders regarding limitations on generator usage for an energy client;- Successfully represented a financial services client in appeal by debtors trying to avoid a waiver of defenses signed in exchange for a loan modification;- Submitted numerous amicus briefs to the Supreme Court of Alabama, many of which contained arguments adopted by the court.As a veteran litigator, Ed has successfully advanced his clients’ interests before the Supreme Court of Alabama and the Eleventh Circuit. He provides his clients with a steady hand through an often-complicated, high-stakes legal process, from start to finish.
