Ed Hetherington joined UNC Management Company in 2014 as Vice President and Managing Director of Public Investments. Prior to joining UNCMC, Ed was the Director of Public Markets for the UPS Investments Group. In this role he had responsibility for a $25 billion portfolio of public investments which included the global equity, fixed income, risk parity, and hedge fund portfolios. Ed’s role included portfolio strategy and allocation, manager selection and due diligence, as well as risk and performance monitoring. In total the UPS Investments Group was responsible for approximately $29 billion in assets held for the UPS defined benefit plans.Prior to this role at UPS, Ed was the Global Equity Portfolio Manager for the plan where he had oversight of approximately $8 billion in equity assets. Ed was recently named to the Chief Investment Officer Magazine 2014 Top 40 Under 40 "Young and Established" list. The Young and Established list is made up of 11 professionals who are considered permanent members of the Top 40 Under 40. Ed has previously been named to the 2013 and 2012 Chief Investment Officer 40 Under 40 List highlighting top young talent in the asset management industry. His team at UPS was named as Institutional Investor’s 2014 Corporate Hedge Fund Investor of the Year and was also awarded the Chief Investment Officer 2013 Industry Innovation Award for Top Corporate Pension Plan. Ed began his career at UPS with the company’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group where he took part in over 20 strategic M&A transactions. He also served as the Finance Coordinator for the integration team tasked with combining 15 acquired companies to create the UPS Supply Chain Solutions business unit. He serves as a volunteer on the investment committee for the Zeist Foundation. Ed is a CFA charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
