My objective is to raise awareness of how climate change and environmental pressures are increasing the emergence and spread of infectious diseases, in relation to One Health - animal's, environment's and human's health are all connected.

Support the Ebola and special pathogen preparedness programming for healthcare partners including designated treatment centers, network coalitions, and partner agencies (e.g. FDNY), and special projects through deliverable-based contracts (7 Network Coalitions, 2 Designated Treatment Centers, FDNY, others).

• Coordinate Stony Brook University Hospital site as part of the multicenter NIH-funded CRACKLE 2 study to investigate carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infections; obtained IRB approvals, manage isolate collection, subject enrollment, medical record review, database updating and auditing and supervise a 15-person team.• Coordinate prospective and retrospective investigations on patient’s admitted to the hospital with IV opioids addiction and complicated infections; obtained and maintained IRB approval, NIH Certificate of Confidentiality, manage subject enrollment, isolate collection, extract information from medical records, database updating and supervise a 3-person team.• Manage 14 separate and approved IRB human and IACUC animal protocols by preparing application documents, annual renewals and supervising laboratory members required certifications.• Co-designed and implemented a surveillance program to assess prevalence of multidrug resistant organisms (MDRO) in procedures utilizing elevator channel endoscope, resulting in established hospital guidelines to prevent infections.• Developing monoclonal antibodies via hybridoma technology targeting the capsular polysaccharide of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and of hypervirulent/hyperviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae strains. • Characterizing virulence traits of different clinical isolates. Classify them using MLST and capsular genotyping. • Developing new diagnostics tools for hypervirulent strains producing infections. • Serve on the SBU Hand Washing Task Force aiming to reduce hospital nosocomial infections. Conducted surveys to understand healthcare workers attitudes, beliefs and self-perception of hand washing. Contributed to a 2-minute video aired in the hospital to promote hand washing and managed 2 pilot interventions to increase hospital hand washing compliance to 90%.• Prepared, coordinated and organized NIH grants (R21 and R01) submission documents for Principal Investigator.

• Participate in review of antibiotic resistance trends in Middle East countries. Contributed to MSF’s Ethic Review Board and Ministry of Health protocols. Assist Epicentre and Medical and Operations Research director on ongoing projects.

• Developed antibodies targeting the capsular polysaccharide of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae. • Characterized virulence traits of different multidrug-resistant clinical isolates. In vivo and in vitro antibody-mediated protection assays.• Established and coordinated both national and international collaborations to facilitate success of project investigations.

Deciphered the mechanism of action of Kid, an Escherichia coli RNA toxin by engaging in national and international collaborations and supervising an undergraduate student.Authored 3 papers in international, peer-reviewed journals, published a review and a book chapter of the field and co-authored 4 journal articles.
