Each application requires different designs, fabrication techniques, integration of surface engineering approaches, flow control systems, sensors, and microfluidic architectures. Moreover, all these are adapted to well-characterized analytical protocols to provide to the researchers and society with analytical devices able to integrate and to automate a sequence of steps from sample preparation and analysis to results reporting. Microsystems integration constitutes a big challenge and requires the coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team.
