Providing pyrolysis mechanical support and Non-Process Quality Control (NPQC) for an Olefins Major Growth Venture. Responsible for mechanical decisions at the Engineering/Procurement/Construction (EPC) contractor office during the basic and detail engineering stages. Mechanical involvement includes, but not limited to: validation and approval of mechanical calculations and drawings, approval of vendors procedures and drawings (ITP, WPS, QA/QC procedures), advising furnace layout and construction planning.Providing lead technical pyrolysis support for the development of the new expansion steam cracking furnace at the Baytown Olefins Plant project. Responsible for: interfacing with and evaluating technical and execution capabilities of EPC contractors, leading technical evaluation of EPC proposals, and advising the project team.

Led a team of process and mechanical engineers on the design of a new expansion steam cracking furnace at the Baytown Olefins Plant. As the main technical point of contact for the project team, was responsible for process and mechanical decisions of the furnace design, ensuring that all business and operations organization requirements were met, and producing the final mechanical and process specification. Used in-house process and mechanical tools to screen and validate the design throughout the process.

Developed and implemented long/mid/short term improvement strategies for all 27 steam cracking pyrolysis furnaces. Coached and developed less experienced pyrolysis and contact engineers on steam cracking technology. Strong leadership skills were required due to frequent interaction with the Plant Leadership Management Team and the Operations Organization. Taught multiple steam cracking courses to new technology and manufacturing engineers.

Provided technical expertise directly to the Baytown Olefins Plant Operations Organization. Served as the main technical point of contact for steam cracker safety processes such as, but not limited to: management of change, hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), improve initiatives screening. Led a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to improve and maintain the reliability and operability of the 27 steam cracking furnaces at the Baytown Olefins Plant. Led several process safety and reliability investigations to ensure that the correct root cause was identifiedand the most effective correction actions were executed.

Led the development of Capital Projects for improvements of the Baytown Olefins Plant’s steam cracking furnaces by developing cost-to-benefit analysis, economic models, capital return investment calculation, equipment and engineering basis, and progressing the project though ExxonMobil’s capital project model. The involvement with capital projects also included the execution and implementation of these projects (full circle, idea to start-up).

Provided mechanical support for new and existing steam crackers in the EMCC worldwide fleet. Completed multiple mechanical specifications for steam cracker re-builds and capacity expansions that included, but not limited to: piping flexibility analysis, finite element analysis of critical components, high temperature stress creep analysis, high pressure vessel design; all in accordance with the applicable design code that governed the steam cracker based on geographical location. Developed Microsoft Excel based tools to standardize mechanical calculations for consistency, and improved CAD standards for cast component specifications.

Provided mechanical support for steam systems development for new major project ventures. Developed multiple and complex steam balances for the utilities portion of the venture and provided material selection for the piping of the steam systems.

Provided positioning/navigation daily monitoring, QA/QC and post-processing of navigation data, navigation equipment maintenance and support. As Chief Engineer, had full responsibility of the navigation department. Maintained the research vessel IT infrastructure and obtained small craft operator certification.
