As Tyro transitioned from a merchant acquirer to a full merchant bank holding an unrestricted licence, there were more risks and regulatory requirements. Tyro then embarked on their security journey to bring their security controls to a level that is appropriate for this new level of risk. I took on the responsibility of leading this transformation. I led my team in improving Tyro’s engineering security posture to make our applications more secure. We did so by promoting a security aware culture, assisting with hardening and protecting our applications; improving our incident response capabilities and ensuring we are compliant with regulatory security requirements. Key Achievements: • Successfully built a robust security team from inception, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.• Played a pivotal role in obtaining unrestricted banking licence by developing and delivering application security strategy to meet APRA’s CPG-234 requirements.• Spearheaded the development of a security-focused culture across the organization, promoting awareness and adherence to best practices.• Successfully drove down vulnerabilities within the organization to single-digit figures through strategic vulnerability management initiatives.
