The Great Plains OSHA Education Center operated by Metropolitan Community College (MCC) offers safety training to the private sector and federal personnel from agencies outside OSHA. Serving the greater Kansas City business community, the OSHA Education center is one of two centers that have been in continuous operation since the Department of Labor established the program in 1992. The Great Plains OSHA Education center is a consortium that also includes Barton County Community College in Kansas and the St. Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice. As the area’s only OSHA Training Institute Education Center, I enjoy providing authorized OSHA courses and consultation. These courses are designed to improve participants’ hazard recognition skills and awareness of regulatory requirements. Participants learn how businesses can protect their employees while reducing costs, improving morale and operations. Currently the lead instructor for 1. 10-hour General Industry Outreach and 2. Managing and provided direction to 72 high-performance work teams to meet strategic HSE goals. • July 2009 Corporate HSE audit result of 77(weighted scale) reflected one of the highest performance scores given to a site within Honeywell Aerospace. AlliedSignal (now Honeywell) is a contractor for the Department of Energy’s Kansas City Plant. The plant encompassed 3.2 million square feet and employed 4,100 associates. Primary responsibilities included development of an effective safety management process to reduce injuries and illnesses.• Chairperson of the ergonomic improvement process using a team approach. This included development and implementation of an ergonomic improvement process focused on prevention through design. It also included education of engineering and management, investigation and problem resolution of ergonomic stresses combined with medical case management. • Developed first workers’ compensation brochure to effectively communicate associates’ obligations and the company’s responsibilities. Improved case management by improving medical staff communication and implementation of an early return to work philosophy.• Developed and implemented plant-wide methodology to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act’s employment provisions. Became a benchmark for other divisions.• Appointed chair and lead investigator in a critical incident that required a Type B Investigation using the Management Oversight and Risk Tree (MORT).
