The divestiture of the Cullen UK acquisition by ITW Industry Europe was the greenfield Cullen plant in Brantford, ON. Construction Hardware was a new strategic platform for ITWBCG NA with additional oversight and management of the Cullen plant, product development, product approvals, engineering, Canadian sales and marketing, and coordination with US resources and strategy.

Panel Clip of Canada was started in 1982 as a division of Panel Clip of Farmington, Michigan. This coincided with the transition of the truss industry from sliderules and time-share mainframe computers to the IBM PC XT platform and Sun Microsystems. As a graduating engineer, Ed Lim wrote the 1st truss design program for the IBM XT. The Panel Clip "PC XT Truss Consultant" program was attributed to the success of Panel Clip in Canada along with the low cost entry level "Clincher" C-clamp truss assembly system. The PC XT Truss Consultant software and Clincher C-Clamp enabled many new mom and pop start up truss plants and the growth of Panel Clip especially in Atlantic Canada. Panel Clip was acquired by Mitek in 1988.
