Senior Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
Current
Senior Engineer Iii, Mechanical
Senior Engineer Ii, Mechanical
• Led the development of the next generation capnography (CO₂ monitoring) platform used in breathing circuit applications; reducing both the cost of good and improving reliability performance compared with the previous generation using Quality by Design methodology. • Generated the project schedules and managed the delegation of tasks within the Research and Development team, and coordinated with the cross functional departments (Process, Human Factors, Industrial Design, Marketing, Regulatory, Quality) to ensure project objectives and milestones are met. Worked collaboratively with the Masimo Sweden team and ensured consistent communication between the two international teams.
Principal Engineer
• Collaborated in a cross-site and cross-functional environment to design and fabricate high cavitation injection molds and develop assembly processes for a multi-component clamp. Worked with external mold makers for both prototype and production molds. Use of DFSS methods to down-select material and design and ensuring buy-in from manufacturing for acceptance of the assembly process. • Extended core team member on next generation pump platform, providing guidance to junior engineers and cross functional groups across multiple sites and functions of BD.• Drove project milestones, including creating Gantt Charts, and being held accountable for successful project outcome. • Pioneered new products across the BD portfolio, including IV sets, needleless access connectors, extension sets, and infusion pumps.• Operated in a stage gate project management process in which a thorough review of the current phase is conducted before approval to proceed. Conducted design reviews and prepared presentations for phase reviews• Managed the requirements of the infusion sets used in the next generation large volume infusion pump platform. Translated user needs to product requirements, and conducted clinical feedback sessions to determine product requirements. Captured sources to allow trade-off discussions throughout the project lifecycle. • Enhanced the back pressure and flow rate performance of the NeutraClear needless access connector through tolerance analysis of the connector in the connected and closed state. Modifications of the silicone seal geometry and injection molded components resulted in 10% increase in back pressure and flow rate performance to meet competitor performance
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
• Green belt DRM (Design, Reliability, Manufacturability) certification achieved from project predicting product field performance improvement after redesign using Weibull analysis.• Star of Excellence Award Recipient of the diabetes division based on cost reduction project to simplify freight, materials, testing resources, and testing of products leading to a $1.3 million annual saving.• Subsystem lead on the insertion mechanism of a subcutaneous insulin infusion pump
Mechanical Design Engineer
• Project manager for the procurement of a custom automated print and apply station from sourcing potential vendor to equipment validation. This 9 month project increased the pilot line assembly process yield by over 50% from rework and rejects due to the critical role the application process played in sealing the device. • Redesigned and completed verification testing on a thermoform decorative label that was not meeting CPK requirements, ensuring a quality product that met end user expectations. • Led the conceptualization and fabrication of production line fixtures, ensuring design reviews, tolerance analysis, and preventative maintenance schedules meet requirements.• Lead design engineer for a surrogate plastic injection molded part to replace expensive PCBA components, saving hundreds per build while meeting the fit and form of the original PCBA. • Familiarity with lean and six sigma methodology.
Associate Mechanical Design Engineer
• Process development and optimization of light cured adhesive to bond plastic materials, down-selecting material design of experiment.• Evaluated design requirements needed to address environmental impacts on drug delivery device performance.
Mechanical Engineer Intern
• Developed algorithms through data mining and simulation in MATLAB environment.• Performed failure analysis on the o-ring seal design of a disposable drug delivery system, ensuring accurate and consistent performance.
Manufacturing Science And Technology Intern
• Automated the manufacture data acquisition to an internal data mining software through MATLAB; eliminating redundant paper records, saving time on the production floor and minimizing errors while increasing efficiency by 0.25-0.50 FTE.• Evaluated the correlation between key process indicators through data mining techniques in order to uncover ways to continuously monitor production process.
Simulation Engineer Intern
• Utilized finite element methods to model the degradation of a bimorphic microelectrode probes and to model the insertion reactions between probe and brain tissue.
Nanotechnology Scientist Intern
• Program: Undergraduate Student Research Program• Worked on plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition of carbon nanofiber (CNFs) used in biosensors. Specifically analyzing the effects of Parylene C and TEOS as materials for encapsulation of the CNF. Resulting publication in Chemical Physics Letters, 2010.
Product Development Engineer Intern
• Prototyped the design and functionality of a microfluidic cartridge housing microelectrode biosensors; establishing it as a self-contained point-of-care device.• Refined process parameters of sputtering gold onto a polycarbonate substrate for biosensor use.
